Mums do not like completely dry out between waterings. Water often to keep the soil moist, but not soggy. Pay special attention to Mums in containers, since they are more likely to dry out more quickly. It’s also best to water at the base of the plant near the soil, instead of over the foliage.

As blooms dies, pinch or clip them off to encourage new growth and blooms. This will ensure all the nutrients and moisture goes towards new buds and blooms and helps promote a longer bloom period.

If planting in the garden with the plan to overwinter your Mums, you will need to plant at least 8 weeks before the first hard frost. Mulch the entire Mum in and add 4–6 inches of mulch after the first frost. Wait to cut it back until the next Spring.
